A long devotional today-there are some real good nuggets.
Exodus 15:19-17:7
Exodus 1522-24
The people see and praise God for the Red Sea miracle, but then they complain and think He is going to let them thirst to death in the desert. What kind of faith is this? What about your own level of faith?
Exodus 15:25-26
God uses the tough times in our life to test us (note He never tempts us, but He does test us). What a promise He gives them, be faithful and you will not have sickness. They have a greater promise than we do now. Yet, they at times missed out on this promise because of their unfaithfulness. God does not promise us we will not have sickness, but He does say if we have sickness we can be healed.
Exodus 15:27
God provides plenty of water. Think about it, they are complaining about water when it is just around the corner. God knows what we don't know.
Exodus 16:3
Once again the people are saying they do not trust God. Right after He had given them the promise of life with no sickness. We will find out later that the test of twice as much food on the sixth day is to test the people regarding the Sabbath.
Exodus 16: 4-5
Once again God is going to test the people. We must remember the test is not for God's sake-He already knows what we are going to do. It is for our sake to show us where OUR heart is.
Exodus 16:6-8
Moses was doing the will of God. He was right to say the people were going against God, not him. He should have kept that attitude all along-he would have been able to enter the promised land instead of getting angry and offended by the people.
Exodus 16:9-20
God told the people to not gather more manna than they needed. However, some were operating out of greed or fear of lack, so the Lord took care of that by causing any extra manna to become bad.
Exodus 16:21-24
The Lord was teaching the people about the Sabbath before the law was ever given.
Exodus 16:27-30
The people look for manna on seventh day when God said rest. Thus there was no manna to be found. The sabbath was given by God to the people, thus it is a gift from God. Note-out ot the ten commandments given later to the people, this is the only commandment given to the people ahead of time. So, why do people say keeping the sabbath is legalistic or wrong. How does keeping the sabbath harm you if it is a gift from God?
Exodus 16:33-35
The manna was kept in the Ark of Covenant next to the ten commandments-as a reminder of God's provision and the sabbath principle.
Exodus 17:1-3
Once again the people show lack of faith. God provided quail and manna, yet the think He will let them die of thirst. Notice that this time Moses takes the peopl'es complaints personally and argues with them. He is starting to let them get to Him.
Exodus 17:6
God told Moses to strike the rock and water came out.
Matthew 22:1-33
Matthew 22:1-6
Guests (which would have been friends) were invited but did not show up and even were rebellious. These represent people who know about God but refuse to accept Jesus Christ as Lord.
Matthew 22:8-10
So the king invites others off the street. These would be atheists, agnostics, and others that have not been close to God.
Matthew 22:11-14
The king must have provided clothes for everyone because all of them had come off the street and nobody else was pointed out as not having wedding garments. The man without the wedding garments was showing his rebellious spirit. All are invited to accept Christ, but some are not chosen-because they refuse to be chosen.
Matthew 22:15-21
If your enemies start praising you-watch out. Those who are against paying taxes, obeying the speed limit, the laws of the land, are not following the principle Jesus taught.
Matthew 22:23-33
The Sadducees were trying to show how ridiculous the concept of the resurrection was to them. Jesus addresses their question, but redirects them to the truth of the resuurection.
Psalm 27:1-6
Psalm 27:1-3
The psalmist praises God for who He is and the protection He will provide.
Psalm 27:4-6
Notice that the psalmist then speaks of the value of the House of God. If we are trusting in God, we will have fellowship with God. Church is important to you if you have a sincere relationship with God.
Proverbs 6:20-26
Proverbs 6:20-23
How many people realize that the guidance and direction of their parents had wisdom, yet they did not follow their parents guidance. Yes, some parents are evil, but most give some kind of good counsel.
Proverbs 6:24-26
Some argue prostitution should be legal (like Neveda), but Scripture shows the destruction that comes from sexual immorality.
