As a follower of Jesus Christ we can live life as an overcomer because of what Jesus has done.

John 16:33
³³ "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

How do we live as overcomers? By walking in faith-trusting in the finished work of Christ.

1 John 5:4
⁴ For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

God has given us the ability to live a life of victory, but the devil wants to overtake us, there are warnings in Scripture.

Romans 12:21
²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
If there is a warning to not be overcome by evil, this would mean there is the potential for believers to become overcome with evil. We need to be on guard-sober and alert to the attacks of the enemy of our soul.

2 Peter 2:20
²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
So, it is dangerous for followers of Christ, to fall back into the sin that so easily entangles them.

As a believer are you struggling to keep the victory? Ask God to give you the strength to be an overcomer-He will do it. His strength comes in the form of His grace. His grace is more than unmerited favor-it is the power to do His will. In our next article we will talk about grace.
