What is Living a Victorious Life?
administrator | June 09, 2009 04:40

What does it mean to you to live a victorious life? Does it mean that you never sin? Does it mean you never are sick? Does it mean you never experience hardships?  Does it mean you never are discouraged? Does that mean you will never lack financially? Or does it mean that you are living as an overcomer?

Never Sin-If your definition of living a victorious life is to never sin, then there is a real problem since everyone sins-even followers of Jesus Christ. But there is a difference between ongoing willful sin and stumbling at times. There is a difference between sinning and sincere repentance and sinning with no remorse. All of us are going to fall short, however someone living a victorious life will repent quickly and are always checking their heart and motives. They will overcome the sin that tries to easily entangle them.

Never Sick-If your definition of living a victorious life means never being sick, then that would mean that you believe having sickness is a sin, or that a person is falling short if they are sick. Some measure good health as representing holiness. That is a false hold. Should we strive to live a life of good health-absolutely! But can we not live a victorious life even in the midst of sickness-absolutely! Can we be effective for the kingdom even if we are sick-absolutely! However, if we are living a life of bitterness, anger, fear, worry, doubt, that opens the door to sickness and disease, that is not living a victorious life-that is living a life of defeat. But when I am sick and I don't let the sickness control me, I live as a victorious overcomer.
Never Experience Hardships-Some Christians have a false concept that those who are living a victorious life will never experience hardship-that is a life from the pit of hell. It is contrary to Scripture. Joseph experienced tremendous hardships but lived a victorious life. Apostle Paul experienced hardships but lived a victorious life. If you read your Bible, Jesus experienced hardships but lived a victorious life-He conquered sin and death. The key to living a victorious life is not letting hardships overcome you, but you overcome the hardships.

Never Discouraged-Some believe that unless you name it, claim it, and are positive all the time, you are not victorious. All this mindset does is encourage Christians to be phony, wearing masks. So they come to church discouraged, and instead of getting prayer and encouragement, they leave church just the way they were when they came. Or they stay home discouraged. The truth is we all are going to get discouraged at times. Moses, Elijah, Jeremiah, Paul, and many more godly men got discouraged, but they did not let their discouragement stop them from doing the will of God. They defeated the discouragement by pressing on to the high calling of God. They were ultimately overcomers.

Never Lack Financially-Some measure victory by how successful you are financially. If that was true, then almost all of the Christians in third world countries must not be living a victorious life. Apostle Paul must not have been very successful many times since there were times he had nothing. What about Jesus-He did not even have a place to sleep at times. Does that then mean I should take a vow of poverty to be victorious, no of course not. What it does mean is that I will not allow my finances, or the lack thereof, to determine my willingness to serve God. I will not be controlled by money or the lack thereof.  I will live a life as an overcomer rather than be controlled by my financial status.

The key to living a victorious life is to live as an overcomer.  To resist evil. To receive prayer when sick. To live above your circumstances. To live above the trials and tribulations that come your way. To fight the good fight. To trust God to meet all your needs. As you are blessed, you bless others. To live a life of repentance instead of life of willful sin. To grab hold of the promises of God. To not accept defeat.

Romans 8:37 (NLT)
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Romans 8:37 (NKJV)
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Romans 8:37 (NASB95)
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

Romans 8:37 (NIV)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Bottom Line-Do you live a victorious life over the things of life, or do the things of life overcome you?

P.S. I do believe that as a Christian we can and should strive to live a life without sin, to be of good health, to be positive,  to be open and grabbing hold of the promises of God. To walk in holiness and purity. But we will fall short at times. We must then do what Apostle Paul did:
Philippians 3:12-14 (NASB95)
12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Thank you for this message. Just very timely for me upon reading this blog because I feel sick right now, I feel so down of the many unpleasant circumstances and the message strucks me that no matter how I'm feeling and experiencing, I should not let it control me rather I have to hold on to God's wonderful promises. I will be an overcomer.

As a follower of Jesus Christ we must always remember to live our life according to the Word of God, not how we feel. Feelings come and go, but the Word of God never changes.

May the Lord strengthen you through this hard time.
