"Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation and freedom in all just pursuits."
--Thomas Jefferson
Commentary
Too many times people allow their happiness to be controlled by their conditions of life, especially in developed, industrialized countries. The proof that our happiness is not based upon the conditions of life, is the happiness that can be found among people in under developed countries. They have little, but can still be found with a smile on their face. They are thankful for life itself.
What about you? Are you thankful for life itself or do you run to people, places, or things to be happy. Some go to food to bring comfort-only to feel guilt and remorse all over again and either purge or gain excessive weight. Others go to sex, drugs, careers, the list goes on and on.
What is sad is when Christians are doing the above. It's time for each of us to do a check in with ourself and make sure our happinesss is not based upon the things of this world (this is not to say everything in this world is evil or that there are not things in this world that can bring healthy happiness).
