Leviticus 19:1-20:21
Leviticus 19:1-2
Is God's requirement to Israel to be holy any different for a Christian-a follower of Jesus Christ?
Leviticus 19:9-10
This is where the term gleaners comes from. A portion of the crop was to be left for the poor to 'glean' from.
Leviticus 19:27
Not trim your hair or cut your beard? In the midst of all the commands that make sense, this one does not make sense. It would be interesting to see what has been written about this passage. There is a possibility that it may have been given to address a practice that was taking place by other religions.
Leviticus 19:28
Tattooing was a practice by other religions. Notice why you should not tattoo-because God is the Lord. This can be taken as God saying, your body belongs to me.
Leviticus 19:30 and Leviticus 19:3
Why are so many Christians against the concept of a Sabbath? How is it harmful to you if it is not done in a legalistic manner? The early Christian church had no problem with the Sabbath concept.
Leviticus 19:33-34
We should be accepting of legal immigrants. However, we should not be accepting of any customs that would violate God's law.
Leviticus 20:1-5
People were actually sacrificing their children to gods during this time.
Leviticus 20:6-8
Notice that seeking mediums and spiritism is seen as spiritual prostitution. God has strong words for those who seek horoscopes, palm reading, etc.
Leviticus 20:9-16
It seems like God has a very harsh penalty for the sins listed. Why? Because all of the acts described would led to the destruction of the nation of Israel. We must remember this was the start of a nation and God wanted to make sure the nation started with an understanding of morality and that He is a holy God.
Notice Leviticus 20:13. There is no way a person can justify homosexuality and say it is just 'an alternative lifestyle'. It is a lifestyle that lead to death in the Old Testament. Because the consequence for the behavior is not the same now, does it mean God now condones the behavior. Of course not. He does not condone any of the other behaviors listed.
Leviticus 16:29-18:30
Leviticus 17:1-9
This guideline was setup so that Israel would not worship other gods, sacrifice to idols, follow other religions. All of the kings of Israel had to know this guideline, yet many violated it. Thus Israel at many times worshiped other gods. Has God set up guidelines in your life, but you have ignored them and gone astray?
Leviticus 17:10-16
There could have been a couple reasons for this guideline. One of them is that there were other religions that had rituals regarding the drinking of blood. Also, disease is carried in blood, and God had a health reason for this guideline.
Notice that before God gives all the guidelines on sexuality that He says 'do not practice what the other nations do'. So all of the detestable behavior that is described was being practiced by others. So, some of the guidelines that God gave that seem to not make sense may have been commanded by God just to separate Israel from the other nations and to test the people to see if they will obey.
Read verses 21-23 in context. Notice that homosexuality is put between sacrificing children to Molech and having sex with animals. Homosexuality is grouped with other detestable acts. It is not 'just an alternate lifestyle'.
Leviticus 15:1-16:28
Leviticus 15
I am sure all of our readers are saying, what? Some of these guidelines were probably for sanitary, health reasons. Masturbation would certainly have been seen as unclean.
Aaron's sons were killed by God because they made the choice to do things their way and to show disrespect of God. God will not destroy people in the same way as in the Old Testament, but it would be foolish to think because you do not see immediate consequences that you are getting away with your rebellion.
Leviticus 14:1-57
Again, some of the actions taken may seem strange, but the issue of disease, infection, and contamination was being addressed.
Mark 6:30-56
Mark 6:30-34
There were people around them all the time, helps to understand why Jesus would tell people who He healed to not tell otherr, He was being overwhelmed. Don't forget that Jesus was fully human. In spite of the pressure, you read over and over again how Jesus had compassion on the people. Do you have compassion for people?
Mark 6:35-44
Jesus tells the disciples to feed the crowd of people. They had just come back from ministering and see many healings and their response is based upon the natural realm and their physical limitations.Jesus shows them they may have little, but God is a God of multiplication.
Mark 6:45-52
It says the disciples were amazed when they saw Jesus walk on the water and entered the boat. They were amazed because they did not understand the significance of the fish and loaves miracle-their hearts were too hard to take it. Is your heart too hard at times to take in God's plans and work in your life?
Notice how different the atmosphere is at Gennesaret compared to Jesus home town. Miracles take place where there is expectancy.
Leviticus 13:1-59
Some of the ceremonial practices may seem strange, but they main point is that God was giving the people a way to address disease and to prevent the spread of disease.
Mark 6:1-29
Mark 6:1-6
What is interesting about this is that Jesus grew up not sinning. Did the people not see up to this point that he was different than other children and young men?
Notice it says because of the people's attitudes/mindsets Jesus was limited in doing miracles. Unbelief limits miracles. Those who are against divine healing and miracles today argue that they do not believe in these things because they see little of it-it is because of their unbelief. Plus, when healings take place they say it is of the devil, no different than the people of Jesus' time.
Mark 6:7-12
The disciples performed the same miracles as Jesus. Why did Jesus give them such scrict commands? So they would walk in faith and see how God provides. That would build their Faith to pray for the sick and cast out demons. It also would help the disciples to see more fruit because they would be ministering where there was people of faith.
Mark 6:13-29
How many men (or women) have been outside the will of God because of listening to the opposite sex, making decisions for the approval of man, etc.
Psalm 39:1-13
Psalm 39:1
We need to be careful what we say.
Psalm 39:4-6
The reality is that in the eyes of man we are nothing. All our riches mean nothing.
Psalm 39:7-13
The psalmist was repeating. In their repentance they were not defending their actions. How about you, when you repent of something are you giving all kinds of excuses or do you just come clean?
Proverbs 10:10
The Proverbs have been telling us what makes a person a fool. This verse states a fool will be ruined. So why would you want to be a fool.
Leviticus 11:1-12:8
Leviticus 11:1-47
Notice that many of the animals and fish that are classified as unclean are scavengers. The fish/shellfish that are listed are scientifically known to have higher contents of mercury. It is harder for the body to digest pork than other meats.
Before the law was given by Moses, God had already defined what was to be clean and unclean when Noah put the animals on the ark. Notice that Noah put one pair of unclean animals and seven pair of clean animals. (Gen 7:2)
Why would there need to be more of the clean than unclean? Because the clean would be eaten and the unclean would not be eaten. Was it just coincidental that when Israel was in the desert for 40 years there was no sickness and disease and they did not eat of the unclean animals?
From the time frame of Genesis to Leviticus was God just arbitrarily 'prejudice' against unclean animals? Yes, this could just be a test to see if the people were obedient, but the evidence shows that God never saw unclean animals as food to eat. If God did not see unclean animals as food to eat in the Old Testament, did He change His mind in the New Testament? If so, why?
For me, I want to live healthy. Eating unclean animals is not healthy. My salvation is not dependent upon what I eat, but my health is?
Leviticus 7:28-9:6
Leviticus 7:30
'His own hands shall bring the offering'. No one can confess, repent for us.
Leviticus 7:31-35
A portion of the offering went to Aaron and the priests. The priests had no 'outside job'. Their needs were met by the tithes and offerings. Why do some Christians today question the concept of tithes and offerings. How do they think the church and pastors can function without tithes and offerings?
Leviticus 8:1-13
Moses anointed the tabernacle and Aaron. Anointing oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit.
Leviticus 8:14-30
Once again you will notice that the fat, entrails, kidneys were not eaten.
Leviticus 8:35
The priests were to be at the tabernacle 24/7. What if all churches had their doors open 24/7 to minister to people at anytime? The problem is there would not be enough volunteers because it is hard at times to just get Christians to come to church once a week.
Leviticus 9:1-6
Over and over again the offerings had to be without blemish. If we try to access God without Jesus in our life, we are blemished. But Scripture says a Christian can boldly come before God.
